Cape Town

Cape Town is a very fascinating city, surrounded by beautiful mountains (the majestic Table Top Mountain has a wonderful sight of the city). Beaches are very nice, and activities abound, from trips to the wilderness to diving and boat trips.

It is also one of South Africa’s shoppers paradise, with nice flea markets in Grand Parades Square and Greenmarket Square, and more luxurious shopping districts. Night life is very lively, with concerts, pubs and venues of all kind.

Durban

A major port since the 19th century, Durban is a big city in the north-east of South Africa. It has one of the biggest Indian communities of the country, and is a paradise for beach lovers all year round. The most important area of the city is the Marine Parade, a long street along the coast, which is where most restaurants and hostels are located.

Being such an important port, it is a gateway to Africa, and has a network of roads which connect it to all of the other major areas in South Africa. Its international airport is one of the most important in the country, and the city also features the biggest Mosque in the southern hemisphere.

You will be able to find both more conventional beaches, with facilities and lifeguards, as well as secluded beaches along the cost where you can have more privacy. Furthermore, the city has more than 50 reserves and gardens, some of which will have African wildlife right in the middle of the city limits.

Johannesburg

Also known as Jo’burg, it is a huge metropolis where incredible wealth lives side by side with poverty. It is one of the cities in South Africa were the contrasts between different cultures are more evident, and therefore one of the must-visits if you want to see the ’real’ South Africa. It is a very lively city, with a lot of cultural events, markets and nightclubs. It must be also said that, due to the aforementioned poverty, it is a city where you should be more careful than elsewhere in the country.
